No-Tillage Does Not Always Stop the Soil Degradation in Relation to Aggregation and Soil Carbon Storage in Mediterranean Olive Orchards

چکیده
Intensive tillage (CT) application in Mediterranean olive orchards has threatened soil quality and led to degradation. No with bare (NT+H) been considered as an alternative practice this management system; however, there are discrepancies the literature on results of practice. Our main objective was assess impact continuous zero aggregate stability, SOC SON stocks. The study conducted a rainfed grove under semi-arid conditions Calcaric Cambisol, for 16 years evaluating complete profiles (0–120 cm depth). In long-term, practices CT1 NT+H significantly affected particle size by reducing percentage macro-aggregates (>250 μm) promoting higher number micro-aggregates (<250 μm). Nevertheless, Bw BC horizons increase large macroaggregates (>2000 percentage. relation these results, structural stability indices showed significant decrease both Mean Weight Diameter (MWD) Geometric (GMD) values losses more than 50% respect initial period (CT0) first two horizons. long term, NT+H, concentrations were found deep showing C redistribution depth important TN values—while, CT0, contained highest CPC values, after long-term (CT1 NT+H) dynamics characterised pool microaggregates macroaggregate fractions. Therefore, storage deterioration increased susceptibility decomposition, CO2 emissions fertility losses. This trend i.e., decreases stocks following NT, confirms previous studies subject points nutrient balance impacts.

Tillage effects on soil organic carbon distribution and storage in a silt loam soil in Illinois
Interest in tillage impacts on sequestration of soil organic carbon (SOC) has increased greatly during recent years. The use of reduced and no-tillage (NT) practices generally increases the SOC concentration in surface few centimeters when compared to conventionally tilled soils. However, use of conservation tillage does not always result in increased SOC storage overall. The effects of sample ...

Adoption of sustainable tillage can protect soils from biological degradation and maintain soil quality, as compared with conventional management. This paper presents findings from a long-term tillage experiment carried out in Endocalcari-Endohypogleyic Cambisols on a sandy loam soil in Lithuania. The tillage systems were: conventional (CT), moderate (MT), and no tillage (NT). Tillage intensity...
متن کاملAggregate breakdown during tillage in a Mediterranean loamy soil
Long-term tillage negatively affects soil aggregation, but little is known about the short-term effects of tillage. We investigated the effects of intensive tillage (moldboard plowing) and conservation tillage (chisel plowing) on aggregate breakage during tillage in a long-term study located in the semiarid Ebro river valley (NE Spain). The type of tillage resulted in different soil aggregate d...
